The tower overlooking Chiaramonti

You see it while driving along the S.S. 672. Nuraghe Ruju rises just above the road, sharp, unmistakable. You walk a few metres closer and the mass of trachyte takes shape. It is a Bronze Age single tower nuraghe, imposing, with a truncated conical profile. At the base the stones are large and heavy. As the structure rises, they become smaller, as if the building were lightening itself toward the sky.

You enter through the doorway and step into the central chamber. The walls draw in, the light shifts. Three side cells immediately catch your eye, along with the projecting stone courses that close the space into a domed vault. A spiral staircase climbs upward. You follow its curve and reach the upper level, where the elevation of the second chamber is still clearly visible. There is no spectacle here. There is control, solidity, time that endures.
